Summary: The lecture is about traditional and modern wood protection techniques. The speaker initially attempts to cover the concept of wood as a biological material, its main disadvantages, and to present its main biotic and abiotic "enemies". Then, the concept of risk classification for wooden constructions is analyzed and the resistance classes per use (use classes) are explained, which are directly related to the biological resistance of wood species based on the EN 350 specification. Then, after a brief historical review in wooden constructions, old techniques of protection and preservation of wood are presented, related to tar, natural oils and natural resins. Among the modern protection techniques, wood impregnation technology is presented and technical and other information is given on this subject, as well as on its correct use and application. Finally, the Yakisugi technique is also discussed.
