The main strategy of a passive building is reusing<\/strong> the "free" energy in order to heat the house.<\/p>\n

This "free" energy is produced by all the electrical appliances, like stoves, refrigerators, computers, lamps etc. The building shell <\/strong>of a passive house has to be really well insulated and airtight<\/strong>, so that this "free" energy does not leave the interior of the house unused.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

1<\/span> Thermal insulation<\/strong><\/dt>\n
A correctly insulated shell, during the winter, maintains the heat inside the building, while during the summer it prevents the heat from entering the house.<\/dd>\n
2<\/span> Passive House windows<\/strong><\/dt>\n
The correctly designed, insulated and installed frames participate in the best usage of solar gains.<\/dd>\n
3<\/span> Ventilation heat recovery<\/strong><\/dt>\n
The ventilation systems of passive buildings offer clean air, free of pollen and dust, with maximum energy efficiency through heat recovery and humidity control.<\/dd>\n
4<\/span> Airtightness of the building<\/strong><\/dt>\n
Passive buildings are designed to avoid air leaks in the building shell, thus increasing energy efficiency and preventing the occurrence of drafts and damage from moisture.<\/dd>\n
5<\/span> Absence of thermal bridges<\/strong><\/dt>\n
Minimizing thermal bridges and weaknesses in the building shell, contributes to creating a pleasant and constant temperature and eliminates damage from moisture while increasing energy efficiency.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n

Shading, natural night ventilation, air geothermal systems and correct design of thermal mass contribute to better performance of passive buildings in Mediterranean climates.<\/p>\n

  • A mechanical ventilation system <\/strong> with an air to air heat exchanger <\/strong> is installed so that it can simultaneously bring fresh air<\/strong> and remove a corresponding amount of stale air<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • The warm stale air<\/strong> that leaves the house, "carries" the "free" heat, which through the exchanger moves to the fresh air <\/strong> which enters the house.<\/li>\n
  • The cool exterior fresh air <\/strong>enter the exchanger, receives the heat <\/strong>of the rejected stale air<\/strong> and enters the house during the winter months, while during the summer the rejected stale air<\/strong> cools the \u2013 warmer \u2013 incoming fresh air<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
